...ABOUT THE MATIJA GUBEC SCHOOL ...


...since 1995 our school organizes classes in English language for the children of diplomats and business people from more than 30 countries around the world, which establishes the school as an international meeting place.

...for the pupils from grades 1 to 5, classes are organized in English language according to the Croatian curriculum.

...in the year 2002, the first International school in Croatia is opened. The school operates in accordance with the regulations from Geneva, following the program of International Baccalaureate (IBO) which is the most extensive international program, accepted in almost a hundred countries worldwide. Classes are organized according to this program, for the pupils from grades 6, 7 and 8 (MYP 1, 2, 3).

...having introduced the education in English language, we have become part of Europe and the world, while the opening of the first primary International school has secured us a place in the chain of International schools of the world.

 

...ABOUT THE IBO PROGRAM...

...the program extends over twelve years and is divided into three sections. In our school, the pupils begin their second educational period, the Middle Years Program (MYP) and finish the first three levels then continuing their education in the IBO secondary school (XV. gimnazija) which issues the internationally recognized diploma after completion of the whole program. The IBO diploma enables direct enrolment to numerous universities around the world, such as Oxford or Cambridge .

... the school has been given access to the curriculum centre in Cardiff which offers professional services to all the international schools in the world and promotes the innovations in the education thus connecting us with world trends in education.

 

...ABOUT THE CLASSES...

...teaching is given a holistic approach and is organized with the pupil in the focus, surrounded by five areas of interaction (Approaches to Learning, Community Service, Health and Social Education, Environment and Homo Faber) which are interconnected with common principles and ideas. These principles and ideas are realized through eight academic areas which include fifteen subjects:

1. Language A - English/Croatian

2. Language B - Croatian, German/French

3. Humanities - History, Geography

4. Sciences - General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics

5. Mathematics

6. Technology - Food , Design, Information

7. Arts - Music, Visual Art, Drama

8. Physical Education

...apart from English which is the language of communication, also taught is Croatian, German, French and, by option, the classical languages as well (Latin and Greek).

...through the area of Art (Music, Visual Art, Drama), we promote the diversity of national cultures, as well as the creativity of pupils (pupils write their own plays and music, design the costumes and the scenery and act)

...more demanding subjects are divided into groups for beginners and more advanced learners.

...class content is often developed through pupil projects.

...the school offers numerous extracurricular activities (gymnastics, rhythmics, table tennis, football, basketball, volleyball, tae kwon do, choir, journal group, literary group, ecological group and visual art and music workshops) as well as additional classes for gifted students (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, History and Geography).

...the approach to learning sets high standards in the didactic and methodic shaping of the classes which we realize through the professional seminars for teachers in the European countries within the Geneva organization, language immersion programs as well as the modern educational technologies which substantially transform the process of teaching.

...the application of new classroom technologies (multimedia) introduces pupils to new processes of acquiring knowledge, which function to develop their critical thinking.

...the school places a special accent on promoting different cultures and developing intercultural awareness, mutual cooperation and tolerance.
